Jones, Minister of Agriculture, states that Cabinet to-day agreed the Government guarantee on the fruit exported from the Dominion -shall be continued at the same rate as last year. RAILWAY TARIFF. WELLINGTON, November 9. Mr H. Sterling, General Manager of Railways, states that the Government Railways Board has approved of a reissue of the Railway Tariff. The past issue was in August, 1925, and the book is now out of print. Opportunity has been taken to make some minor amendments, principally in drafting, clearing up anomalies and to settle, points of interpretation. •

N.Z.E.I. PROTEST. WELLINGTON, November 9. Tho New Zealand Educational Institute at a meeting to-night, resolved to enter a protest against the belated stiffening of the proficiency examination. The Institute expressed its intention of renewing its agitation against what it termed an attack on the free place system. A LOST TEMPER. WANGANUI, November 10. Justice Reed sentenced John Moses Marriner, of Pokaka, to two months’ imprisonment, for assaulting Noel H. Le Noel, fracturing his jaw in two places. The dispute was over a logging chain, which prisoner claimed as his property, and which was being used by Le Noel. The Judge said the case would act as a warning to prisoner to control his temper. •> i
