SCIENTIST INJURED

NEW ELEMENT EXPLODES [TIMES CABLES.] ’ LONDON, November 5. “The Times’s” Helsingfor correspondent states: An explosion of the mysterious, newly-discovered atomic element “Eighty-seven” severely injured the scientist Aartovaare, who probably will lose his sight. “Eighty-seven” was recently identified in samarshite by an American experimenter, but it is believed to be indissoluble owing to its high inflammability. Aartovaard was attempting to effect its isolation, when a terrific detonation occurred partly wrecking his laboratory. Despite his injuries, Aartovaard was able to make a statement, expressing it as his opinion that the explosion was due to “Eighty-seven’s” radio-ac-tive influence on perchloric acid.
