OVERSEER SHOT
RACE TO PREVENT TRAGEDY. PERTH, October 20. Robert Graham, 38, overseer on Liverings Station, 80 miles south-east of Derby, was found on Saturday with wounds in the left arm and lung. It is Alleged that he was shot by a stock man, who had been under mental observation. The man, it is stated, had a grudge against the overseer, and is reported to be on his way over St. George Ranges to meet another man against whom he has a grievance. Fltzroy Crossing police are hurrying to warn the man of his danger. A native boy, who heard the shot, found Graham lying bleeding on the floor of the camp at an outstation. The boy rode 38 miles to find the station manager, and it was ten and a-half hours after the shooting before Graham received assistance at the camp, and another 12 hours had elapsed before he was placed in Derby Hospital. He Is in a serious condition, With a revolver bullet in his left Graham, who is a returned soldier, has had a bullet in the right lung since he was shot at the war. Graham said that at 5 a.m. on Saturday a than who had threatened him and another man, arrived at the camp with camels. The man said: “I am going to collect you both.” Graham, not seeing the gun, was not alarmed, apd said: “Don’t be silly. Come in and have some breakfast.” He turned away, And the man, from a distance, of fdur feet, fired a revolver. Graham struggled with his assailant, and fihally collapsed. The man then rode into the bush.
