WALTER KIRBY
21 DAYS’ IMPRISONMENT.
LONDON, October 15. The Melbourne singer, Walter Kirby, who was charged last week at Westminster Court with indecency, and remanded for medical observation, was to-day sentened to 21 days’ imprisonment in the second division. Mr. Edward Marjoribanks, M.P., who defended Kirby, appealed on behalf of his artistic career and beautiful tenor voice. Except for certain defects of personality Kirby might have rivalled Caruso. This was an unfortunate sordid incident in a distinguished career, when Kirby’s ordinary moral control was suspended. It would be a pity if a man of his artistic calibre had his career destroyed by a single act done in temporary physical aberration. ....
