MOTORING MISHAPS

SMASH ON COAL CREEK BRIDGE

As the result of a collision between two cars on the Coal Creek bridge yesterday afternoon, one of the occupants, Mrs. W. A. Judkins, of Lydia Street, Greymouth, was admitted to the Grey River Hospital, with a broken nose. Accompanied by his wife and child, Mr. Judkins was driving from Runanga to Greymouth in his Essex car. The other car, a Buick, was driven by Mr. H. Bowes, of Runanga, who was proceeding homeward, accompanied by his wife, his son. Miss Coulthard, and two children. Both cars were extensively damaged, but that of Mr. Bowes was able to proceed under its own power. The condition of Mrs. Judkins was reported to-day as being satisfactory.

A collision took place in Tainui Street, just before seven o’clock last evening, between an Austin five-seater, the property of Mr. D. Tennent, Cowper Street, and a Ford five-seater, the property of Mr. R. M. G. Smith, Milton Road. Mr. Smith was proceeding southwards, and the Austin, driven by Miss A. R. Tennent, who was accompanied by her father, was proceeding in the opposite direction. Both cars were o.n their correct side. Miss Tennent turned to her right, and crossed tho road, intending to park outside the Presbyterian Church. The impact was severe, Mr. Smith being thrown from his scat to the floor, and his car being turned completely around. The spokes of the rear right wheel, of the wire type, were broken, the gear-box broken, and the mudguard damaged. Mr. Tennent’s car escaped lightly, the blow being of a glancing nature, and the damage was confined to the front dumb-iron.

A mishap of a. minor nature occurred about 3.30 p.m. yesterday, opposite the Main School, when the axle of a Rugby sedan car, owned by Mr. K. H. Kent, broke.
