FLOWER SHOW

EXHIBITS AT ST. JOHN’S. Tastefully decorated stalls and a splendid array of choice and beautiful spring flowers made the St. John’s Hall a centre of attraction for many visitors this afternoon, when the annual Spring Flower Show of the St. John’s Horticultural Society was held. Exceptionally large entries have been secured in all the flower sections, and special attention has been paid to the decorative classes, in which a splendid list of entries has been placed. Cookery and fancy work sections are also included in the show, and have attracted numerous entries. The show will be continued this evening, when an attractive concert programme will be presented. The arrangements for the show are in the hands of a capable committee, headed by the secretary, Mrs W. Roxburgh. The judges for the various sections are: Cut flowers, Mr Mossop; decorative section, Mrs Iles and Mrs W. Thomas, Mr P. Blanchfield; fancywork, Mesdames R. T. Bush and LMcGlashan. The stallholders are:—Cut flowers, Mrs W. Steer; decorative section, Mrs Leitch and Miss Meikle; cookery, Mesdames P. J. McLean and O. McLean; work stall, Mrs Rose and Mrs Kyle; sweets stall, Mrs Low; fancywork, Mrs P. Hambleton; girls’ stall, Miss N. Tennent and helpers; tea-rooms, Mesdames McKenzie, Learmont, Hutchinson, Thompson, J. Hambleton and Misses Kerr and Connor. An attractive display of pewterware, exhibited by Miss Iles, is an attractive feature. Results announced before the “Star” went to press to-day were: — DECORATIVE SECTION. Large Bowl Spring Flowers.
