ADDINGTON MARKET.

CHRISTCHURCH, September 9.

A sharp advance in the values of fat sheep, which were in short supply, and an easing in beef values, which section was over-supplied, were features of the market at Addington to-day. Store sheep: The entry was small, With a fair percentage of better class sheep. The sale was keen with values on a par with those at recent markets. Good s.m. three-quarter bred ewes 13/9 to 14/3, good two-tooth halfbred ewes to 16/-, medium four-tooth halfbred ewes to 15/-, medium ewe hoggets 12/10 to 13/10, ordinary wether hoggets 8/- to 8/9. Fat sheep: An entry of 3500 head. Values advanced by 1/- to 1/6 a head fgr all classes. Values were: Extra prime heavy wethers to 24/1, prime heavy 17/6 to 19/-, medium 14/- to 17/-, light H./- to 13/6, extra prime heavy ewes to 20/1, prime heavy 17/to 18/6, prime 13/- to 16/6, medium 11/- to 14/6, light 9/- to 10/6.

Fat cattle: An entry of 454 head, including 71 from the North Island. A general easing of £1 up to £1 10/a head. Values ranged to 28/- per 100 lbs. for the primest sorts, to 25/- to 27/- for medium -weight steer beef, 22/-, to 25/- for heavyweight beef, to 28/- for primest heifer beef, to 23/for best cow beef, 16/- to 19/- for medium cow beef, and down to 12/for rough and unfinished sorts. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers to £l4 7/6, prime heavy £lO to £l2, prime medium weight £7 10/- to £9 10/-, ordinary quality £5 10/- to £7, light to £5, extra prime heifers to £ll 12/6, prime £8 to £lO, medium-£5 10/- to £7 10/-, light £3 to £5, extra prime cows to £ll 12/6, prime £7 10/- to £9 10/-, medium £5 to £7, light to £4 10/-. The entry of fat pigs was large, with a weaker demand particularly for porkers. Values -were choppers £3 to £5 18/6, baconers 50/- to 57/6, heavy baconers £3 3/6 to £3 13/6, average price per lb. 5d to 5Jd, porkers 34/- to 38/6, heavy porkers 40/- to 47/6, average price per lb. 53d to 7d.

The annual report of the Pukemiro Collieries, Ltd., to be preserited on September 30, states that the gross profit, including rents and interest was £35,622. The directors recommend a final dividend, making 15 per cent, for the year, compared with 25 per cent, last year. The company has repaid its capital in dividends during the. last four years. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. SYDNEY, September 9. At to-day’s wool sales, offerings of 10,416 bales were made, of which 9,089 were sold, as well as 2,277 privately. Increased competition continues, and all the best features hitherto noticed were in evidence today. Greasy merino made 121 d. GOLD QUOTATION. LONDON, September 9. The price of gold is 84/93 an ounce.
