ACCIDENTS AT STATE MINE

ONE MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED Three miners sustained injuries at the State Mine yesterday afternoon, one of them, John Smeaton, married, residing at Seddon - Street, Runanga, being removed to the Grey Hospital in an unconscious condition. Along with his mate, Mr. John Henderson, Mr. Smeaton was jigging a truck of doal when the jog prop pulled out, and falling struck him on the forehead with considerable force. He was rendered unconscious, and immediately removed to the Grey Hospital, where he did not regain consciousness until an early hour this morning. His condition is regarded as serious. Henderson had an ear badly lacerated, necessitating three stitches being inserted by Dr. Meade, of Runanga. The third miner injured, was Mr. E. Olsen, who was caught under a fall of coal, he receiving severe bruising to his ribs, which 'will enforce on him a few days of rest.

On Wednesday, J. Brown, a trucker, received serious injury to a leg through being caught by a runaway truck, and R. McDonnell and C. Pattinson, miners, sustained back injuries, while H. Scott, a rope boy had a finger injured.
