PRESBYTERY OF WESTLAND.

The Presbytery of Westland met in St. John’s Hall on Tuesday, Rev. A. Miller, Moderator, in the chair.

In view of the unsatisfactory condition of the Home Mission Stations in the southern part, of the Presbytery, it was resolved to urge the Home Mission Committee to send their Director, Rev. Cleo. Budd. >.o spend some time in visiting and reorganising these H.M. stations, taking Greymouth as a centre, and see what arrangements can be madd for working them more effectively. The report of the Assembly’s S.S. Examination stressed that only Greymouth and Westport Sunday Schools had taken part, Greymouth sending in 30 papers and Westport 27. In A.B.C. and F. Division, Westport, had sent in the best papers, also in D. junior lessons. Greymouth had sent in the best, papers in E. Division and also in D. Intermediate Lessons. It. was resolved to commend the Assembly's Scheme of S.S. Exams to all Sunday Schools fox’ next year, and on the motion of Mr Ring, the Examiners were thanked for their services.

According to previous intimation. Rev. A. Miller resigned the charge of Westport as from December 31, 1931, the reasons for resignation being advancing years and declining health. The resignation was accompanied by a medical certificate from Dr Foote, of Westport, saying that Mr Miller was suffering from myo-cardial weakness, and should be relieved of full ministerial duty as soon as possible. A communication from the session and congregation of Westport was received declaring the high esteem in which Mr Millar was held for his valuable services and faithful ministry extending over a. period of fourteen years, and acquiescing with regret in his resignation. On the motion of Mr Fell, seconded by Mr Ring, it was agreed to accept Mr Miller’s resignation with regret as from December 31 next, and that the new Clerk be instructed to prepare a suitable miamte for the Presbytery Records expressing appreciation of Mr Miller’s services. On the motion of Mr Naylor, seconded by Mi- Ring, Rev. H. R. Fell was appointed interim Moderator of Westport. It was also agreed that the next regular meeting of Presbytery should be held at Westport on Tuesday, December 8, at a time to be fixed by the Clerk. ' Mr Millar now resigned his offices in Presbytery of Moderator and Presbytery Clerk. It was agreed to accept the resignation of Moderator as from the close of the present meeting, and Rev. H. R. Fell was appointed to succeed him. Mr Miller yielded to the persuasions of his brethren to continue as Presbytery ( Clerk till the December meeting, it being understood Rev. G. A. Naylor would then take office.
