BOY DEFEATS VETERAN. [BY CABLE —PBESB ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] (Recd. August 5, 8 a.m.) MELBOURNE, August 4. The first round matches in the Victorian Amateur Golf Championship were remarkable for the defeat of the veteran, A. Jackson, by a 16-year-old golfer, H. L. Williams, who gave an exhibition of first-class outdriving of his opponent off practically every tee, and playing his irons with mechanical accuracy, winning by four and three. Alter a great struggle at the thirtyseventh, F. Bulte eliminated the former open champion .Ivo Whitton. Sloan Morpeth defeated L. McPherson 5/3.
