In consequence 'of Judge Herdman’s decision delivered yesterday, the Auckland Education Board decided to-day, to withdraw the notices of. dismissal previously sent to about fifty married women teachers. Further action is contemplated. The Board decided to ask the Education Ministei’ whether the Court’s judgment represents his desire when he brought the amending legislation before Parliament. —Press Assn. There was an increase of one in the number of infectious and other notifiable diseases reported in the Canterbury and West Coast Health Districts for the week ended nfoon on Monday as compared with the previous week. The total was 24, as follows:—Canterbury: Scarlet fever, 7; diphtheria, 7; tuberculosis, 4; pneumonic influenza, 1; ophathalmia neonatorum, 1. West Coast: Scarlet fever, 1; diphtheria, 1; enteric, 1; eclampsia, 1. There were three deaths from tuberculosis in the Canterbury district.

A shooting accident occurred at the Greymouth Drill Hall last evening, during the progress of a competition match held by the Miniature Rifle Club. Mr. Henry Williams, of Shakespeare Street, was acting as marker when a “22-long” bullet fired by a competitor, pierced a rusted portion of the iron screen, and travelled right through his leg, immediately behind the knee. After receiving medical attention, Mr. Williams was conveyed 'to bis home, where he is progressing favourably.

O’Brien whether he will, this session, bring down an amendment to the Workers’ Compensation Act, to allow workers, or their dependents, to receive full compensation commensurate with what they would have received on full time, if the workers are working on relief work on short time, due to the present slump.. “A married man working on relief work at tho present time,” said Mr. O’Brien, ‘‘would receive only £4 19s 8d per month if he meets with an accident, and a single man £1 16s per month.
