SYDNEY-JAVA CONVERSATIONS

[BY CABLE—PRESS ASSN. COPYBIGHT.]

(Received July 11, 8 a.m.) SYDNEY. July 10.

The distinction of having the first radio phone conversation between Java and Australia fell to Mr Schmitt, New Zealand Trade and Tourist Commissioner in Australia, now visiting the East on a mission for the Dominion Government, and Mr Blow, acting New Zealand Commissioner, residing at Sydney. The conversation occurred to-night at ten o’clock (Sydney time), and was a splendid success. Mr Schmitt informed Mr Blow that the Dutch Government was treating him admirably affording every facility for the adequate fulfilment of his mission. He introduced a leading Dutch official to Mr Blow, by radiophone, with whom Mr Blow conversed. Mr Schmitt concluded by expressing his highest admiration for the efficiency of the various public utilities in Java.
