HERD TESTING

DAIRY BOARD’S GRANT.

[per press association.]

WELLINGTON, July 10.

At a meeting of the Dairy Board this week, it was resolved that subject to the necessary powers being secured from the Government, the Board should contribute up to £6OOO for the coming season to the herd testing movement, with the object of making further rebate on basis of 6d per cow to farmers testing under group herd testing federation.

Mr Dynes Fulton, president of the Federation, pointed out to the Board that it was essential, owing to the economic position for every encouragement to be given to maintain production. The Government was assisting the movement by £BOOO, thus permitting a rebate of 6d, but it was desired to bring the cost to the farmer down from an average of 5/- to 3/6 a cow. It was hoped to save 6d through economies, and lower costs, but the Board subsidj’ would enable a further 6d to be rebated.
