[OXJB OWN COBBKSPONDSNT.] / REEFTON, July 9? The funeral of the late Mrs. M. E. McMahon took place yesterday afternoon, and was largely attended, the cortege moving from her late residence, Upper Broadway, to the Church of the Sacred Heart, thence to the Suburban Cemetery. Rev. Father Seymour rendered the services at the Church and graveside. The weather conditions here yesterday were particularly severe. Heavy rain fell all day, commencing at 2 a.m. the previous night. In consequence, the Inangahua River was in high flood owing to the melting snow, the latter being well down in the Maruia district, •necessitating the use of sledges to get to Springs Junction from Maruia Springs. The Nelson cars were stuck up ten miles beyond Murchison, and passengers and mails had to be transferred from one side of the obstruction to the other. The Nelson cars did not arrive here until 6 p.m. Mrs. M. Sara, together with her mother, Mrs. Pascoe, and her son, left, for Nelson on Tuesday on a short holiday. The Reefton Young Peoples' Guild met for their social on Tuesday evening. The evening’s gathering took the form of a banquet. The hall was effectively decorated with streamers and greenery. Over 80 guests attended. The monthly meting of the Reefton District High School Committee was held last evening; present: Messrs W. B. Auld (chairman), Campbell (sec.), Dobson, Cleaver, Paterson, Panckhurst, Parsons and Lawn. Headmaster’s Report: Secondary Department—Roll number 24 boys, 23 girls, total 47; left 2 girls. Average attendance 45.4. Primary Department: Roll number 108 boys, 95 girls, total 203. Average attendance 93 boys, 82.1 girls, total 175.1. The door of room 1 should bo atetnded to at once and locked. Handles on several doors should also receive attention. Books have been procured foi’ the primary school library. Hot cocoa is being supplied to the children staying at school for lunch. It was decided that Messrs. Campbell and Panckhurst draw up a schedule of urgent repairs, and application to bo made to the Nelson Education Board for a sum of money to cover the cost of same.

Mr. 11. Walsleben having intimated his intention of resigning at. this meeting, and being held up by stress of weather, tho resignation was accepted with regret. It was decided to send him a letter of appreciation of his services. It was decided to appoint Mr. C. Potter to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mr. Walsleben; also that Mr. H. Campbell be appointed secretary. Messrs Lawn and Panckhurst were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month.
