RUNANGA NOTES

[OUB OWN COBBESPONDKNT.] The monthly meeting of the Runanga Borough Council took place last evening; present, the Mayor (Mr R. McTaggart), Messrs Boddy, Southward, Oakley, Duggan, Williams, and the Town Clerk (Miss I. Richmond). The Councillors extended a hearty welcome to Mr <r. williams, who has been elected to fill the extraordinary vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr M. Malone. The clerk was instructed to send final notices regarding licenses to butchers plying for trade in the Runanga Borough. It was decided that Mr Malone s cancellation of part road and pound reserve be received, and that as a result of the Council’s improvement of the reserve, the price be £5. - Land transfers received and filed: Section 8, Block 45, Reynolds to Caldana. Section 16, Block 40, Sheard to Fraser. Section 7, Block 24, Sarah Malone to Canterbury Education Board.

S. Pinn wrote regarding fixing culvert in front of his residence. The clerk was instructed to advise Mr Pinn that everything possible had been done jn the matter. It was resolved to renew lorry insurance with Messrs Baillie and Neville, and to insure the office for £2OO. Building Permits:—William Armstrong, addition to fowlhouse, £3 permit issued. G. Kerr, a bach £5O, permit issued. Wilmot Armstrong, new fowlhouse, £9, permit issued. R. Higson, wash-house £lO, permit issued. Accounts amounting to £7B 18/1 were passed for payment. Councillor Williams was unanimously elected to the Finance Committee to fill Councillor Malone’s vacancy. The matter of a new Deputy-Mayor was left over to next meeting until a full Council was present. The clerk was instructed to apply rto the Mines Department for their road grant for the current year, pointing out that Pitt Street was in a very bad condition. It was decided to employ one of the relief workers for a month to help with road maintenance. It was decided to hold a special meeting on Tuesday, July 14, to go into the matter of the night-soil system and footpaths in the borough. The clerk was instructed to advise several ratepayers to refrain from dumping rubbish in road drains. The Power Board, Hospital Board, and Roadman’s reports were received as satisfactory.
