An excess of exports of £1,226,971 as compared with an excess of imports amounting to £122,097 during the previous year, is shown in the overseas trade return foi* the, year ended March 3.1, 1931, published ’in the April Abstract of Statistics. Exports declined in value by £9,518,033, while imports decreased by £10,867,107. The decrease in the value of import? as compared with the previous year is practically an all-round one, only four items—crude residual oil, dairying machinery, telephones and accessories, and newsprint—showing increases. Motor vehicles show the .biggest drop -—£1,849,936 which represents a fall of 48 per cent.
