KINI’S MISHAP
THE CAPTAIN AT FAULT. [PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, April 26. The Marine Court of Enquiry into the mishap into the steamer Kini, which struck some object off Bare Island, south of Cape Kidnappers, on April 10, found that Captain D. Fraser had committed an error of judment in holding the course he did for so long. He had complete safety a little farther out to sea, and the Coprt was of opinion that he should have gone further out. The Court remarked: “Had the visibility remained good, the course set by the master for the daylight run would, in our opinion, have been a safe and proper one.” The captain was ordered to pay fifteen guineas towards the costs of the enquiry.

[by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. COPYEIGHT.] SYDNEY, A*pril 26. Mr. Lambert, the diver, has returned rom Noumea, where he has recently been .engaged on salvage operations on the stranded motorship Enton. He says that fourteen thousand cases of benzine and one hundred drums of lubricating oil have been recovered. The ship is resting on a flat rock in a couple of feet, of water. She is practically undamaged, but it. will be impossible to refloat her until the high tides, about September, when she should come off with little assistance, providing she suffers no serious damage in the interval. She might have been towed off after the stranding with the aid of tugs, but since then she has moved farther on the reef. Her engines are in perfect order, and were utilised dur-
ing the salvaging operations. The vessel has been made thoroughly secure by means of stout hawsers.
