MAYOR OF NEW YORK
PRIVATE LIFE CRITICISED. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] NEW YORK, April 21. Mr Franklyn Roosevelt (Governor of New York State) has received a ; fifteen thousand word document from the Mayor of New York, Mr Walker, requesting that the charges 'against him and his administration be del missed. Mayor Walker offered a strong defence of hi's administration, and he attacked his critics’ accusations as being unwarranted and false. Mayor Walker published a spirited reply to charges made yesterday by local representatives of the National Republican Club, criticising the Mayor’s personal habits. Mr Walker stated: “When such a body employs this means of creating internal dissent, it seems time to call out the disinfecting squad. This Committee' has laboured and brought forth a shower of sulphuretted hydrogen gas offensive to the Republicans as well' as to the Democrats. As to my private life I will match it against those of the composers of this tiracSfe.” Mayor Walker’s supporters characterised the Republican Club’s attack as an outrage and an absurdity.
