[OUB OWN COBBESPONDENT.] REEFTON, March. 28. Reefton experienced the first frost for the year 1931 this morning. The wind was particularly keen last night, and this morning ithere was a light frost. The resolution that a special rate be struck for payment of lighting the streets of Reefton was carried on the casting vote of the Chairman, at the meeting of the Council on Thursday, and. not defeated, as stated in yesterday’s issue. The operation of the Inangahua County Empowering Act prevents this being put jnto operation at once, and steps are to be taken to have the Act amended. The voting for the resolution was the Chairman. Crs. Archer, O’Reganj, Watson; against—Crs. Auld, Byrne, Panckhurst and Blackadder. Forty men are at present working under the unemployment scheme at Reefton. The pay-out yesterday amounted to over £lOO. They are engaged chiefly in clearing up the streets and roads. Mr W. P. Mbnteith was a visitor to Reefton during the last two days. Mr W. E. Richards, of Hokitika, passed through Reefton yesterday en route to Nelson, where he had been called, owing to the serious illness of his sister, Mrs Carruthers.
