BOXING

DONOVAN-BLAY DRAW

[per press association.]

NEW -PLYMOUTH, March 1

The return boxing bout between T. Donovan of Waitara. (9.2) and B. Blay, of Victoria (9.2) was held at the open air stadium at Western Park on Saturday night, in fine weather. There was a crowd of 4000. The contest resulted in a draw.

The fight was marred by too much wrestling, both boxers offending in this respect, they solnetimes appearing to lose their ’heads. Donovan was the worst offender, through persistently hanging on. He was frequently cautioned by Referee Maxwell, otherwise Donovan might have secured the verdict.

Donovan, who was sent down in the fourth round for a count of eight, by a left upper-cut to the solar plexus, made a great recovery, and thereafter he was doing more than holding his own.
