MOSLEY’S NEW PARTY
[BY CABLE—PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]
LONDON, February 28. ’Sir Oswald Mosley announces the formation of his new party in a manifesto in which he again emphasises the lack of a national plan to meet the grave industrial situation. Sir O. Mosley condemns the political
machinery of the old parties, which, he says, has reduced Britain to its pre- « sent plight, and he calls to his aid such members of the House of Commons as Consider that retirement from politics, or even failure, is preferable to acquiescence in the present situation. He says that the requisites of the formation of a new party are: Voluntary workers in every constituency; candidates to contest the next election, and finance for the organisation ' of a party, “which will change Parliament from a talkshop to a workshop,” will maintain stable markets, and a high living standard, based on high wages. Sir O. Mosley states that his plan includes proposals economically to link up the Dominions and Britain by a new economic organisation with common interests. He has launched an appeal for four hundred election candidates and also for a fund on behalf of the new party. He says that he and his supporters are not prepared f o continue the idle ' game of politics without an effort to rouse the nation to save itself from becoming third-grade. ' MR. BALDWIN CHALLENGED [TIMES CABLES.] (Recd. March 1, 10 a.m.) i LONDON. February 28. Sir Ernest Petter has announced that he is contesting the St. George’s Westminster, vacancy, owing to Sir L. Worthingtoiy Evans’s death, as an Independent Conservative. This is a definite challenge to Mr. Baldwin’s leadership, which he describes as disas- . trous. He favours Empire free trade, economy, and a firm hand in India. Sir Ernest Petter’s announcement has shocked the Conservatives, whose dismay is intensified by the refusal of Colonel Moore Brabazon, ex-Minister in the Baldwin Government, to accept the party’s nomination for St. George’s.
