The view was expressed by several delegates who had visited the stricken area that such a suggestion was quite unwarranted and without any foundation of fact. . The following motion was carried unanimously after some discussion.-— “That the New Zealand Builders’ and Contractors’ Federated Union of Employers deprecates the action of individual architects in making public statements concerning the workmanship of certain of the buildings destroyed in the recent disaster which occurred in the Hawke’s Bay district, before a thorough investigation of all the circumstances surrounding the erection of such buildings.”
HOMELAND FUND. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, February 26. The Hawke’s Bay earthquake fund has now reached a total of £38,037. Sir C. Fergusson, Lord Jellicoe, Lord Liverpool and Lord Islington, who are appealing for funds point out that the losses amount to many millions, and say that, * characteristic of New Zealanders, they have not appealed for assistance. They will not complain, but'will get to work bravely to rebuild and make good the devastation which wrecked the work of 80 years.' KUMARA DONATIONS.
NGAKAWAU MINERS’ DONATION. Mr H. E. Holland, M.P., received yesterday, from Mr J. S. Russell, Secretary of the Ngakawau Miners’ Union, a cheque for £5O, made payable to Mr W. E, Barnard, M.P., with instructions that the money was to be sent direct to the member for Napier for the immediate relief of workers in the earthquake area. Mr Holland has duly forwarded the cheque to Mr Barnard.
