DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS.

DUNEDIN, February 27. The . New Zealand championship athletic meeting commenced to-day' at the Caledonian Ground.. The track was a little slow, and a fresh north-east breeze impeded the competitors. There was an excellent attendance of 3,500. Features of the meeting were records broken by Rothert and Sullivan, although the latter could not claim a record as he had the wind behind him, in the hop, step and jump. Results: — 440yds championship —First heat: Don Evans 1, Harley 2, Pickering 3. Time 57 3-ssecs. Second heat: Ogg 1, Blackmore 2, Fleming 3. Time 52secs. The final is to be run to-morrow.
Half-mile cycle championship. — First heat: Fogarty' 1, Grose 2, Pearce 3. Time 1.18 4-5. Second heat: O’Brien 1, Hansen 2, Gane 3. Time 1.141-5. The final is to be decided to-morrow.
100yds championship. —First heat: Elliott 1, Hart 2, Jenkins 3. Time 10 l-ssecs. Second heat: Gordey 1, Valk 2.- Time 10 4-ssecs. The final is to bo run to-morrow. George Simpson will run in the final. 120yds hurdles championship. —First heat: Robilliard 1, Young 2, Mcßae 3. Time 17secs. Second heat: Darby 1, Manson 2. Time 16 4-ssecs. The final is to be run to-morrow.
Hop, step and jump championship— Sullivan 47ft sins, 1; Johnson 45ft 61ins, 2; Easton 44ft 81ins, 3. With the wind behind him, Sullivan could not claim the record.
220yds championship—First heat: Jenkins 1, Gordery 2, Webster 3. Time 23 2-5. Second heat: Elliott 1, Cox 2, Fleming 3. Time 23 3-5. One mile cycle championship.— First heat: O’Brien 1, Fogarty 2, Rae 3. Time 2.23. Second heat: Pearce 1, Grose 2, Gane 3. Time 2.23 1-5. One mile championship.—Bayne 1, McDonald 2,. Lovelock 3. Time 4.30. The first half was done in 2.12, and the second in 2.18. The American, Kiser, went out to v»in from the start, but. the New Zealanders let him go, and gathered him when they wanted him. He finished fourth.
Junior high jump championship.— Gillick' sft Igin, 1; Meek 5.02, 2; Tregonning and Henderson (equal) sft, 3.
100yds junior championship.—Stephenson 1, Maskell 2, Henderson 3. Time 10 2-5. . Discus throwing championship.— Rothert 142 ft 51in., .1; Munro 134 ft 84in., 2; French 113 ft siii., 3; Leckie 111 ft 9in., 4.
Three-mile walk championship.—G. S. Cabot 1, R. H. Cabot 2. Time 23min. 26 l-ssecs. Miller (Wellington) was called off.
