Saskatoon advices state that the /United Farmers of Canada, Saskatche- ‘ wan Section, with a membership of more than 26,000, have decided to enter politics, and will seek the backing of all citizens in electing Parliamentary candidates, both Provincial and Federal, on a policy aimed at ultimate social ownership and non- ( profit production. - NEW YORK PRESS MERGER. NEW YORK, February 27. The “'New York World” morning and evening Sunday editions passed out of existence to-day, after approximately 60 years’ publication. A. Court order set aside the proviso I in the will of the late owner, Joseph Pulitzer, enjoining his heirs never to sell the property, which now merges with the “New York Telegraph” even-' ing newspaper, owned by the Scripps Howard Syndicate. The price is ap-
proximately 5,000,000 dollars. BONUS FOR VETERANS. NEW YORK, February 26. The House immediately over-rode President Hoover’s veto, passing the Veterans’ Bonus Bill by 328 votes to 79. The floor leader, Mr Tilson, attempted to ask members to sppport President Hoover, but was virtually howled down. The Speaker (Mr Longworth’s) announcement, “The Bill is carried, the President’s disapproval to the contrary notwithstanding,” was greeted with wild cheering. The Bill was promptly rushed to the Senate for consideration to-morrow. WASHINGTON,‘February 27. The Senate passed fyke - Soldiers’ Bonus Bill, -which now automatically becomes law.
LONDON’S. NEW TUBE. LONDON, February 26. The London underground railway plans to begin work in summer on an extension of the Bakerloo line, from the Elephant and Castle iii Camberwell Green, a populous South London district. The wqrk will provide employment for 4000 men for two years. The cost will be nearly £2,000,000. JAPANESE AIR TRAGEDY; TOKIO, February 27. Returning from a practice flight, a naval aeroplane crashed against tha mother sh.jp “Akagi.” A lieutenant, who was piloting, and a mechanic who was accompanying him were killed.

Though economies are being sought everywhere to adjust the finances, the Reichstag Budget Committee voted £37,000 to encourage sport, mainly with a view to assuring that Germany will be strongly represented at the Olympic Games. , OLD BUSINESS SOLD LONDON, February 27. Harrods have purchased the James Schoolbred Company, which went into voluntary liquidation in June last, and has since been seeking a purchaser. The price is stated to be £BOO,OOO, as a going concern. Schoolbreds is the oldest general store in Britain. It was founded in 1817, and boasts that Charles Dickens was among the early patrons.
