PERSONAL NOTES

Mr. C. Duggan left for Christchurch this morning.

Mrs. G. Preston left this morning on a holiday visit to Christchurch.

Mr. M. Grimes, Christchurch, is on a Visit to Greymouth.

Mr T. Gardiner, of Hastings, is visiting the West Coast.

Mr J. W. Calwell has returned from a visit' to Christchurch and Auckland.

Miss Rita Johnson, Christchurch, is on a visit to Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Baxter, Blackmore Street.

' Mr. J. Moore, who has been on a holiday visit to the West Coast, returned to Christchurch this morning.

Mrs J. McLeod, who has been m hospital at Christchurch, will return to Greymouth next week.

Mr J. Emsworth, representative for the Humphrey Bishop Coy., is at present in Greymouth.

Mr John Kerrigan, chief veterinarian for Canterbury and Westland, is on a visit to Greymouth.

Mrs. M. Marsh (Hokitika), was a passenger for Wellington by this morning’s express:

Mr. M. Ferruih is on a visit to Greymouth, and is the guest of Mr. T. O’Connor, Preston Road.

Mr J. A. C. Kissell has been appointed relieving teacher* at Ikamatua, to replace Mrs Pringle, - who has resigned. ,

Advice has been received from Wellington of the death of Mr Alex. Levy, aged about 42 years, a son of Mrs. Henry -Levy, of Hokitika.

Guests at Revington’s 'include: Mr. A. Whisker, Mr. F. Robb, Mrs. E. E. Gillon, Mr. J. Gillon (Wellington), Mr. V. Mannix, Mr. M. G. Cameron (Christchurch) .

Mrs N. Griffen, daughter of Mr and Mrs Warburton, Runanga, underwent an operation at the Limes Hospital, Christchurch, "on Friday, and is progressing favourably.

The death took place this morning at her residence, Preston Road, of Mrs Jane Okey, aged 93 years. Mrs Okey, who was predeceased by her husband some years ago, is survived by four daughters (Mesdames Pritchard Manukau, Levin, Palmerston North. Pope, Hamilton, and Keith, Cobden), and three sons (Messrs Henry Okey, Auckland, and George, and Charles Okey, Greymouth). Another son, Mr Joseph Okey, was killed in the Great War. The funeral will take place to-morrow at the Karoro Cemetery. >

The wedding took place at St. John s Presbyterian Church, this morning, the Rev. H. R. Fell officiating, of Mr. William James Marshall, late of 1 County Antrim, Ireland, to Miss Mary Prescott Powell, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. Powell, of Runanga. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a frock of blue georgette, with hat and shoes to tone, and carried a bouquet of chrysanthemums. The bridesmaid, Miss Bessie Powell, a sister of the bride, wore a frock of pink georgette, .with hat and shoes to tone, and carried a bouquet of pink asters. After the ceremony, a reception was held at. Herb. Mbore’s cabaret, the guests being received by the bride’s mother, Mrs. I. Powell who wore a grey silk dress, •and a black silk coat with hat to tone.

The death took place last evening at his-residence, Coal Creek, of an old resident of the Grey district, Mr Jacob Baty. Mr Baty had for some time been in failing health. Born in Weardale, Durham, England, Mr Baty, accompanied by his wife, arrived at Dunedin in 1879, and came to Grey|mouth in 1885. For a time, Mr Baty was employed, on the construction of the Cobden Bridge, and he later took up farming at Coal Creek. In 1921 he retired and went to live in Papanui, Christchurch, but he later returned to Coal Creek. Mr Baty was for a long period a prominent member of the Methodist Church. H e is.survived by his widow, five sons (Messrs Joseph Baty, Rotomanu, Thomas Baty, Greymouth, Walton, Alfred, and John Baty, Coal Creek,» and four daughters (Mesdames E. Airey, Greymouth, T. Manderson, Christchurch, J. McEwan, Runanga, and Miss Hilda Baty, Papanui). The funeral will leave his late residence to-morrow afternoon for the Karoro Cemetery.
