SEAMAN’S WEDDING
RUSH FOR THE CEREMONY
[special to “star.”]
AUCKLAND, February 26.
Stormy weather, encountered in the Pacific by the liner Maimoa. which reached Auckland from Liverpool, last evening, nearly caused a postponement of the wedding of the second officer, Mr. A. S. Winton, who was married to the daughter of Dr. J. Kirkwood, at Onehunga, shortly before eight o’clock last evening, the latest hour at which the ceremony could be conducted.
Arrangements had been made for the wedding to take place at seven o’clock, as the Maimoa was expected to arrive earlier in the day. Theil she was delayed by rough weather, and it was not certain that she would reach port in time. The vessel anchored in the stream at 6.20 p.m., and after pratique had been granted shed berthed at Prince’s wharf after seven o’clock. The bridegroom, was dressed ready for the wedding, so that when the Maimoa berthed he lost no time in setting out for Onehunga in a taxi, and reached the church at ten minutes to eight.
