Bookmaker fined.

DUNEDIN, February 26.

Stated by Chief Detective Cameron to be “in the first flight” of Dunedin’s bookmakers, Arthur Lord was fined £lOO with costs. 10/-, in the City Police Court to-day, for using his premises as a common gaming house.

GLENAFTON COLLIERIES. AUCKLAND, February 26. The Glenafton collieries dispute has ended. A mass meeting of the members of the Glen'afton Miners’ Union was held to-day, and it was decided that woi'k be resumed on Monday. The Manager of the Glenafton Collieries Ltd., states that the resumption is unconditional. '

JURY DISAGREEMENT. GISBORNE, February 26

At the Supreme Court, to-day, before Mr. Justice MacGregor, in the case of a young man, Eric Francis Mackay, charged with perjury, the jury, after a retirement of four hours, failed to agree, and a new trial was ordered at the Juno sessions at Gisborne.

The Labour Representation Committee selected Mr H. R. Mason, M.P., as candidate for Mayor in the forthcoming election, and also selected Mr A-. S. Richards to contest the Roskill seat at the general election.

COACHWORKERS’ AWARD WELLINGTON, February 27.

The Arbitration Court has refused to amend the coachworkers’ award to exclude panel boaters. The object was to bring them with the sheet metal workers etc., but the Court declares it is impossible to suggest that panel beating is a mere accessory to the coach and motor body buildingtrade.
