Mr S. A. Clark, Inspector of schools in Hawke’s Bay, and formerly headmaster of the Somerfield School, has been appointed to the inspectorate of the Canterbury Education Board. Miss G. Charles, of the Blaketown School, who has been appointed' to the Greendale School, will leave for Canterbury to-morrow. She was farewelled by the staff and children at Blaketown, and 'presented with a clock. Brigadier-General Hart, of Masterton, has been appointed Administrator of Samoa, in succession to Colonel Allen. The appointment dates from April 3, and Brigadier-General Hart proceeds to Apia on April 18. —Press Assn.

In adopting a recommendation from a special, committee, the Otago Hospital Board sanctioned what amounts to a 20 per cent, reduction in the hospi-' tai levy for the year. The committee’s recommendation was that no levy be made for capital expenditure, which means a reduction of £lO,OOO on local authorities.
