OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT ‘‘The Gold Diggers of Broadway,” which has been presented to packed houses will be finally shown this evening. TOWN HALL—TO-NIGHT There is a treat awaiting motion picture fans who attend the screening of Richard Barthelmess’s newest vehicle, “Weary River,” at the Town Hall to-night. “Weary River” is a splendid spectacularly modern story if which underworld life is combined with the radio. “Stand and Deliver,” a silent production, will be scheened at Sunday ■night’s picture benefit. NEW YEAR DANCE The Greymouth Soccer Club’s weekly old-time dances in the Druids’ Hall have met with such success to date that the Club has decided to hold an extra special long night dance on New Year’s Eve to give patrons an opportunity of dancing the old year out and the new year in. A varied programme of old time dances will be tendered interspersed with modern dances whilst a few of “Ye (old Caledonian Dances” such as Circassian (circle) and Highland Schottische will also be included. There will be cards for nondancers. TO-NIGHT’S CABARET DANCE. Herb Moore’s Cabaret will l’£ a blaze of cojour at to-night’s cabaret dance, conducted under the supervision of the Mawhera Ladies’ Hockey Club, A splendid floor, a full orchestra and every comfort possible makes an excellent night’s entertainment for all patrons. Carnival effects in the form of balloons, streamers and confetti will add to the gaiety of the proceedings. Dainty programmes will be distributed to dancers who will be able to enjoy both old and modern dances under the respective supervision of Messrs W. Ryan and G. Scott.
HOSPITAL BALL. A ball will be held at the Town Hall. Friday next, in aid of funds to provide Christmas cheer for the inmates of the Hospital, and Old People’s Homo. Approperate music will be presenter!, and first class supper provided. A NEW SOPRANO. The biggest success of the evening, on the occasion Royal Dunedin Male Choir’s recent concert, was scored by Signorina Graziella Rossi, who made her debut upon the Dunedin platform. She was described by the “Star” as “a brilliant young soprano, whose singing entirely captivated the audience.” Signorina Rossi is a niece of Mr G. Perotti, of Greymouth.
