OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT. Ireland and the Irish, with all their inconsistency, romance and humour — these are things that appealed to last night’s large audience at the Opera House, when “Smiling Irish Eyes” M'as screened for the first time. It is a /delightful tale that runs through a story full of Irish extravagance and contradictions about Irish lovers who believe in fairy tales that still call the Irish back home. The boys of Erin, the hills and lakes and cottages of Killarney make scenes of wonderful charm, and the photography gives refreshing reality and life to some of the most engaging landscapes that have been seen on the screen for many a long month. “Smiling Irish Eyes” will appeal as much on account of its originality of execution and conception as by reason of any particular worth there may be in story, setting or action, the musical interpolations in the form of sentimental folk songs and ballads remain among the happiest recollections of very en- ' joyable evening. Colleen Moore has been happily cast in the role of Kathleen O’Connor, and Tom O’Brien is no less suitably accommodated in the leading male part of Rory O’Moore. The film is genuinely good fun throughout, and sentimental to a nice degree. “Smiling Irish Eyes” will be presented again to-night, Wednesday’s matinee and evening, and positively the last performance on Thursday night, BELL HILL SOCIAL.
