, STUDENTS FIGHT TROOPS CITY PROPERTY WRECKED . [BY' CABLt—PRESS ASSN.—COPYRIGHT.] ‘ (Recd. November. 14, Ip.m.) HAVANA. (Cuba), Nov. 13. Rioting and street fighting between mobs of students and troops was renewed violently after the Government has taken wide precautions against threatened disorders.. The streets were filled with rioters, and much property was destroyed, especially in the neighbourhood of the offices of the newspaper “El Pais,” where a woman called '“stop.” In an earlier disturbance, in which cavalry, infantry, and police were attempting to control the crowds, there was considerable sabre fighting and gunfire. Martial law is now being enforced. Army trucks, manned by soldiers, with machine-guns, are patrolling the streets. The failure of sugar prices, bad industrial conditions, and the spreading of fever unrest from South American Republics induced the rioting. CONSTITUTION;. SUSPENDED. HAVANA (Cuba); November 13, In face of the increasing unrest throughout th 6 Republic, President Machado to-day, issued a decree suspending constitutional guarantees throughout Cuba. WOMEN APPEAL TO ARMY NEW YORK, November 13. The Cuban police were told to fire to kill to control the rioters. A delegation of Cuban women and girls called on the army to protect them * from the police. The women’s attitude is considered unusual, and it is not known yet what action the army will'take in the disorders.
