RACING. FIXTURES. OCTOBER. 25, 27—Wellington R.C. 27—r Waverly R.C. 27 —Waikato Hunt Club. 27 —Waipawa County R.C. 27 —North Canterbury R.C. 27, 29—Gore R.C. 30, Nov. I—Poverty1—Poverty Bay T.C. Coast Horses at Rangiora: Several horses from the Coast will be engaged at Rangiora on Monday. R. Orange left to-day with Mr. Turley’s pair, The Dove and the two-year-old Earthquake. The Dove has been working well at Omoto, while the youngster has furnished into a commanding two-year-'old who has shown speed in his work, and a liking for galloping. A. Conza was to have left to-day with Mr. Turley’s other galloper, Arch Arrow, but there appears to have been some mistake in the acceptance list, for Arch Arrow’s name does not appear in the list.

Tip Tree, who raced on the Coast at Easter 1929, when he carried good weights, did not race last season, hut will contest the Fernside Handicap, where he is let in at the minimum weight. His is an instance of how a horse can drop in the handicaps. Miss Mercia, since she re-commenced racing this season, has been very consistent in her efforts. Whichever event Miss Mercia is started in, Mr. P. Thorpy's mare should perform well. The Reefton owned Smithereens will command respect in the Fernside Handicap, if started in that event, in preference to the Highweight. N.Z. CUP MEETING. PRINCIPAL~EVENTS. CHRISTCHURCH, October 24. PROSPECTS FOR N. CANTERBURY [special to “stab.”] CHRISTCHURCH, October 24. Interest will be lent to the North Canterbury Meeting on Monday from the fact that the fields include several prospective New Zealand Cup and Stewards’ Handicap candidates. Starshooter may be at a disadvantage in the Rangiora Cup, as he has been on the easy list since racing at Geraldine. Count Cavour must be regarded as a spent light, and it looks as if Desert Song and Ranelagh should be the most dependable. Of the poor lot in the High Weight Handicap, Smithereens and Semper Paratus seem to outclass the rest of the field, and though he has done little fast work, Great Star’s brilliancy may stand to him in the Flying Handicap. Even with 9.5 in the saddle, Charmeuse is assured of solid support in the Oxford Hack Handicap, but Compris may prove her master. If Smithereens and Miss Mercia are reserved for the Fernside Handicap, they will be worthy of respect, as Thorndale cannot be ready to show his best. Most of those engaged in the Viewhill Trot have no public credentials, but Clapham and Goldsworthy have both some form to recommend them. Of the nine acceptors for the Ashley Trot, all hut Kanieri are on the limit, and as she is only giving away 12 yards, Brent Locanda may prove equal to the task set her. OAMARU SELECTIONS. Though there were a number of defections from fields engaged at the Omaru T.C. Meeting, there is plenty of material for a high-class day’s racing on Monday. Welcome Guy and Great Glee are likely to show improvement in the Improvers’ Handicap, while Rawhitiroa and Black Watch are a_promising pair of maidens in the Trial Handicap. Wracker has been set a stiff task in the Oamaru Handicap, but the race may do him good, in view of his New Zealand Cup engagement. The best of Harold Logan has not yet been revealed, and Muriel do Oro is nicely placed. Great Logan, Carmel, Grand Light and Invader are all assured of support. In what should be a most interesting contest, Harold Logan and Muriel do Oro, may bo capable of keeping the opposition busy. Baron Bingen and Lydia appeal in tho Pukekuri Handicap, as do Repeta Mac and King’s Voyage in the Wai!taki Handicap. Final McKinney will be well suited by the distance of the Weston Handicap, while of the back markers, Carmel may be the best. Arethusa looks to have all the best of the argument in the Redcastle Handicap, but Hostess cannot be left out of consideration.

Of the speedy lot engaged in the Dash Handicap, Hostess, if reserved, and Nelson De Oro, may do best.
