VICAR IN RAIDED CLUB
* “NOT ASHAMED,” HE SAYS. A police raid on the Green Room Club, Wilmington, Dartford, England, resulted in tho manager. Mr Frank Bartram, being fined £3O, his wife and Herbert Walter King, assistant managers, £2O each, for supplying in-” fcxicatlng liquor during prohibited hours; .19 persons £5 each for consuming the liquor, and another num, against whom there were previous convictions, £7. Among tho defendants fined £5 for consuming, was the Rev. Bowland Wormell, vicar of Christ Church, Dartford, who declared that, he was a resident at. the club. The police superintendent said that Mr Wormell when asked for the number of his room said it was "3” but a. wish to the room showed that it contained a single bed and that there were a woman’s garments in the room.The assistant secretary said that Mr Wormell had a prior claim to it should he require it. Mr Wormell said he was not ashamed of being a member of such a. club. He had stayed there on two occasions. On the night of the raid he went at 11.15 to see his printer. Ho and his friend had nothing to drink. The club was struck off the register.
