GIRL OF THREE KILLED
BOY CHARGED WITH MURDER. Joseph Turek, nine years old, of 239, Huron Street, Brooklyn, New York, was arrested at his home on a charge of juvenile delinquency based on the death of three-year-old Teresa Workowski, of 183, India Street, Brooklyn. Tho girl encountered Joseph and several other boys as she was going to a store at 314, Oakland Street, for ice cream. Angered because she got in his way, Joseph is said to have taken a leather belt from around his waist and struck her across both arms, the metal buckle on the belt causing abrasions. The girl ran home to her mother, who applied home liniments. When her arms became swollen two days later, the mother summoned a physician, who had the child removed to Greenpoint Hospital, where she died at 1 p.m. of blood poisoning. Joseph was heart-broken when taken in custody seven hours later. “I didn’t intend to hit her,” he insisted. “There were some other kids there, bigger kids, and I meant to strike them.”
The boy was locked up at the Meserol Avenue police station pending arraignment in the Children’s Court.
