LINTON MINE DISPUTE

REPLY TO UNION PRESIDENT.

[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] INVERCARGILL. October 2. In a statement issued to-day. the management, of the Linton Coal Mines dates: “In reply to loud protests of he President, of the Nightcaps Minis’ Union that there is no ’go slow’ trike in the mine, the management is fully satisfied that the'miners in solid workings, these being the only miners 'ffected bv the regulation in question, ro ‘going slow.’ The regulation which tho company is enforcing in its mine, and to which the miners are opposed. is a regulation made under lie provisions of the Coal Mines Act, Slaving for its sole object the safety of ho miners themselves. During the pay mmediately prior to the strict enforcement of this regulation, the avei'ge output of the men affected, was ;ver six tons per shift. It is quite futile to suggest, that a. drop of this magnitude is due to the enforcement of the regulation.” q’he statement concludes that the Linton Company was not responsible for tho Press Association message from Dunedin with reference to supplies of coal being obtained from Otago mines. It is true that the Company has made arrangements to obtain supplies from Otago, as required. Tho company is not anxious to ask its customers to accept Otago coal, but ic will not. hesitate to do so if the necessity arises.
