FIRE AT SUVA.
SUVA, October 2.
Fire at five this morning in the Agricultural Department offices and the Suva laboratory, did damage to the building, probably amounting to £5OO. The loss is covered by insurance.
S. AFRICAN RAILWAYS
CAPE TOWN, October 1.
The Railway Conciliation Board conference proved abortive, and the deadlock is intensified. The Board is now holding a council of war.
PROHIBITION REPEAL.
NEW YORK, October 1.
A message from Providence, Rhode Island, states that the Democratic Convention inserted in the platform a plank calling for the repeal of both the Eighteenth Amendment and the State’s “Baby Volstead Act."
