Mr Beban’s Team: Killigrew, Pound Note, Rina Munga and Limoka were on the track this morning. Tom Bennett has the quartette in nice order, but Killigrew, the five-year-old son of Kilbroney Comic, who’ is in fine order, is the only one [ being set any serious tasks. He will probably be taken to the Cup meeting lin November. Silent and Atone: F. Langstone had Silent and Atone doing useful exercise, both horses appear to be in nice condition. Earthquake: Mr Turley had his good looking two-year-old Earthquake (Acre Sugar Bag) doing useful work. The youngster is well grown, and takes the eye as a likely sort. Gold Bar: Tom Shanahan worked Gold Bag. Tho Gasbag gelding is looking big, and is apparently in good condition. TO-DAY’S NEWS. Awaken: Is expected to strip in capital order to contest the Shorts Handicap at Ellerslie on Saturday, for which she is one of the first fancies. Is Useful:
Up to the present the three-year-old Paratoo has failed to win, but he is I-, very useful horse in the making, and his turn should not be fa/ off. Prodicc: Is not badly handicapped at 8.4 in the New Zealand Cup, judging by the weight she has in the Mitchelson Cup, but she has not yet proved herself a two-miler. She, however, appears the best prospect among her sex.
Call Again: Was purchased by Mr G. C. Swincrds just prior to the race for the Hurdles, which he won. His condition stood to him in considerably better stead than it did to the other contestants.
Huntingdon: Led the whole way and was never in danger of being caught at Hastings on Saturday. He is in fine order at present.
Gallant Fox: A son of Hunting Song, and the Australian-bred mare Smone Concert, who finished fourth in the Nursery Handicap at Hastings, possesses a lot of pace, and is likely to show much improved form next time he races.
Zea Lap: Pulled back just after the start of the Hawke's Bay Guineas and was always at the tail of the field. “Her chief claim to fame may never be more than that she is Phar Lap’s full sister,” states “Rangatira.”
Winning Jockeys: With the new season practically only begun, H. Gray and A. E. Ellis, who had a very close contest for the jockey premiership last season, are again in the leading positions. The first six are: A. E. Ellis 13, H. Gray 12, L. Jarvis 7, H. Wiggins 6, H. Goldfinch 5, T. Green 4. Paganelli: Will be ridden in the Shorts Handicap at Ellerslie by T. Green, and if ho has improved with his race at Avondale, and conditions are favourable. he should make a bold showing on Saturday. In the Shade: ' Has been showing excellent form in Australia, but it is doubtful whether ho can keep that form till New Zealand Cup day. Just Too Late: According to reports, Acmil with a few more yards to go, would have beaten the winner of the Glenaray Handicap, Kahikatoa, at Hastings on Saturday, having left his run just too late. Lady's Boy: Has yet to recoup his owner-trainer, Mr T. E. Davison, for his purchase in June, but showed a glimpse of form when he beat all except Grand Tea at Avondale. After 21 years: H. Gray has won the Avondale Guineas twice. This year on Cylinder and on Elysian 21 years ago. Cylinder: Has won £2755 in stakes. He and his dam. Cymene, cost Mr A. B. Williams 2250 guineas in January, 1928. A Good Winter Track: Te Awamutu trainers say that they have missed only one day’s work in the last three years on account of the track being too bad for galloping. It must be one of the best winter tracks in New Zealand, and no wonder horses from that centre “clean up” during the early .spring campaign.
More Reliable than Tote: The sum of £334 5s 9d being receipts from their live stock account, was credited to the Greymouth Jockey Club for the 12 months ending June 30. There is no doubt that the “President’s and Secretary’s farm” is a paying proposition. Profit and Loss Account:

Following a week of weather which ’ did not allow any training work to be ’ carried out at Victoria Park, this ! morning found the track in good order and some interesting work was carried out. Ned Quinn sent Pearl Bingen over la miles, at about a 2.28 gait, the mare doing it nicely. He also worked the unnamed Peter Moko filly, the young trotter being restricted to jogging. ; Fred Gilbert had a good work-out • with Galindo Rose and Millaquin. R. : Flowers rode the latter, and Gilbert . held the reins behind Galindo Rose. They set out over a mile, the first half being covered in 1.10 and the journey in 2.24, quite a creditable effort. Millaquin went easily all the way. T. Bennett sent High Jinks along at about a 2.30 gait, the old fellow moving nicely in his efforts. Bennett also harnessed up Liberty Hall, the Great Audubon gelding accomplishing useful work. He is looking in good order.
R. Cooper brought Rose Guy to the track this afternoon, the filly again giving a pleasing display. M. Swift arrived later with Vican, the aged Brent Locanda gelding being given useful exercise. W. Reid had Dawn Sonoma on the track, the straight-out trotting filly again giving a most pleasing display. C. Digby has left for Methven with Slogan and Roger Lyon, but they will have to improve on track form to meet with success. T. Lalor has Kawana looking well, and restricted him to useful exercise. Universal:
The Globe Derby—Muriel Star yearling pacer, now being handled by R. Berry for the local sportsman, Mr. A. Grogan, is going along nicely in his work, but will not be hurried.
