OMOTO ROAD BLOCKED
BIG SLIP OCCURS TO-DAY. A big slip occurred on the Omoto Road to-day, near the Borough pumping station, and completely blocked traffic. The Borough Engineer (Mr. A. J. Fairmaid) estimates that the best, part of a week will bo required to clear the debris, tho road being covered for about a chain. Tho adjacent country is described as a, “greasy back,” and its slippery nature was accentuated by the recent heavy rain. Clearing operations at the Greymouth end of the slip were commenced by the Borough staff this afternoon, and work at the Omoto end will commence to-morrow, drays being sent there via the Taylorville road, on the opposite bank of the Grey River. Traffic generally will bo compelled to use the latter road until the slip is cleared. A smaller slip occurred at the same place yesterday morning, but was cleared sufficiently to enable a resumption of traffic yesterday afternoon.
