REEFTON NOTES

KSCTT- ’’ T [OUB OWN COBBESPONDBNT.J REEFTON, September 27. Mrs Geo. Osborne, who has been away on holiday, returned on Thursday. Yesterday was a very dismal day at Reefton. Heavy cold rain fell almost all day and the temperature dropped considerably. Snow was falling on the high ground. Mr Charles Chandler sprained his ankle while erriployed at the Perfection Valley Collieries yesterday. On Wednesday afternoon a fourroomed unoccupied house on the Grey Road situated on Mr W. Sunnus’s land was destroyed by fire with the <

whole of its contents, consisting of harness, cream separator and milking utensils. A calf and a dog fastened up at the back were burned to death. There was no insurance on the building, or its contents. At the conclusion of the Hospital Board meeting, on Thursday the board resolved itself into a local earthquake committee. A letter was received from the Secretary, • General Earthquake Committee, stating that A. J. Griggs’ application could not be entertained as it was received after the closing date. The chairman did not consider this was fair, as applicant was under the impression that the claim could not be made pntil repairs were effected. A second claim for £6 10/- from a local resident, has so far not been dealt with by the general committee.
