STROMBOLI ERUPTION
FIVE KILLED—IS INJURED COUNTRYSIDE DAMAGED [BY CABLE —PBESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] ROME, September 12. A startling and tremendous explosion occurred from the crater of the volcano Stromboli, which broke out into extraordinary activity yesterday. Showers of flaming stones and. molten matter from the volcano have started fires throughout the country. There are four dead, and more persons have been injured. A destroyer and two torpedo boats have been despatched from Messina. It is denied that the entire cone of the mountain has been blown off. WORST SINCE 1907. (Received September 13,. 10 a.m.) ROME, September 12. Stromboli is in eruption, the worst since 1907. 1 Five are dead and fifteen seriously injured. Two of the victims perished in a river of burning sand. The body Of another disappeared in the lava.
