A Waipukurau Press Association telegram stated that the funeral of Sir George Hunter left St. Mary’s Anglican Church there yesterday morning, a public service being conducted by Canon E. D. Rice.- The crowd was too large to accommodate in the church, so the coffin was placed outside. The Vicar eulogised the life of the deceased, and said he was generous to a degree, particularly to returned soldiers. Mr Campbell (Hawke’s Bay) represented the Reform Party, and a Minister (Mr Murdoch) the Government. The Jckey Club stewards acted as pall bearers. The town closed during the service, and flags were at half-mast. At the conclusion of the service the body was taken to the deceased’s station for private interme.nt, a large number of cars following to the borough boundary. A special car carried a great number of beautiful wreaths received from all parts of the Dominion.
