CHINESE COMMUNISTS

POWERS TO TAKE ACTION.

[BY CABLE —PBESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]

LONDON, August 10.

The “Daily Telegraph’s” diplomatic correspondent says: The British, American, Japanese, and French Governments are consulting with a view to concerted naval measures for the safety of their own nationals at Hankow and at other of the Yangtse river ports that are threatened by the Communist forces. Their action is inspired purely by humanitarian motives, and it should in nowise be construed as an intervention in China’s domestic feuds. They will only operate where the Nanking Government is unable to protect foreign life and property. It is most gratifying that the leading Treaty Powers have been able to agree promptly on a common plan of action. This agreement between the Governments follows fine co-opera-tion by the responsible local representatives of the four Powers. The military prospects of Marshal Chiang Kai Shek and the Nanking (Nationalist) Government are not regarded as hopeful, in view of the Southern Communists’ advance down the Yangtsekiang River. Marshal Chiang Kai Shell’s chief difficulty is a shortage of money. The Communist armies are really groups of bandits, who have been organised, armed and financed bv the Soviet's agents.

CANTON EXECUTIONS

HONG KONG. August. 9

Following the Nanking Government’s instructions to the Kwaiigtung Provincial Government, the Canton authorities are carrying out searches, and are loothcombing the city for Communists. Yesterday over a hundred were- tried and fourteen immediately executed. Other executions are probable, indicating a firm desire to stamp out extremists.
