FIRE OUTBREAKS
NEW PLYMOUTH SCHOOL.

NEW PLYMOUTH, July 25.
Damage estimated at about £l3OO was done to the Central School, New Plymouth, to-night, by a fire that broke out about 6 p.m.- The origin was, ap.parently, through a defective chimney in one of the classrooms. The flames spread rapidly through the rafters. It was hours before the outbreak subsided, owing to the great difficulty in getting at the seat of the trouble. Four classrooms were practically destroyed aloft, and water and smoke caused considerable damage to the school books and fittings.'
Tho school is a large one, accommodating nearly 600 pupils. It is built of wood, and is very old. The Education Department carries its own fire risk.
BRISBANE INSTITUTE.
BRISBANE, July 25
Tho Workshop Department .of the Queensland Deaf, Dumb and Blind Institute was destroyed by fire to-day. The loss totals £12,000.
WOOL ABLAZE.
(Recd. July 26, midday). LONDON, Ju[y 25.
Approximately 10,000 bales of wool, principally Australian, were burned in a fire at Brown Eagle’s East End warehouse. ■
