A young man, Nicholson, son of a farmer, was driving up Korokoro Hill. The horse was struck by lightning and killed. The wind at Kelburn reached a maximum force of 53 miles an hour. At Rongotai there were frequent gusts of over sixty. The weather is still unsettled, with squalls threatening. The crew of the steamer Tees, lying at the Petone wharf, to discharge a cargo of timber, had to be called from the shore, and an anxious night was spent in fear that she might be driven ashore.
