REEFTON, July 24

The death is reported from Takaka, on July 20, of Edward Rosser, son of the late Mrs Rosser, an old-time resident of the district, aged 69 years. He is survived by a widow and family. One brother, Mr Chas. Rosser is resident in Hawke’s Bay, and Mr Chas. Potter and Mrs W.- Shaw of Main Street, are nephew and niece respectively. Mr J. M. Irving, who has been on a visit to Nelson, has returned. Messrs J. and P. Slattery, who have been in Christchurch attending the funeral of the late Mr Jas. Beban, have returned.

At a sitting of the Warden’s Court yesterday, before Mr Meldrum, Warden, the following applications were dealt with: — E. W. V. Jones and party, for a Coal Prospecting License over 410 acres in Blocks V, VII, and XI, Reefton S.D. —Adjourned to 31/7/30. C. Pfahlert and D. Stewart for four ordinary Prospecting Licenses, each over an area of 100 acres at Black-water.-—Granted. P. O’Donnell, for an ordinary Prospecting License over 100 acres at Alexander River. — Granted. Minnie Magee, to surrender Residence Site License No. 469. —Accepted.

At a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court before Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., Reginald Rutter, for disobedience of a Maintenance Order to the extent of £4, tvas sentenced Io fourteen days’ imprisonment in Greymouth Prison, warrant, not to issue on payment of arrears by monthly instalments of £2 per mon I li, first payment on or before August 10.

C. Fanselow v. C. Reeve, judgment for plaintiff by default for £2/10/-, costs £l/3/6. F. W. Archer and Son, v. P. S. Blight, judgment for plaintiff by default for £27/15/-, costs £4/3/6.
