WAIUTA NOTES
[OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.2 Mr A. H. Hart (postmaster), has returned from holidays. Messrs A. Fairhall, R. Fairhall, J. Aitken and S. Meredith, Greymouth, were visitors to Waiuta on Sunday. Messrs Bremmer and Richmond, of Christchurch, were visitors to Waiuta during last week. Miss M. Tomlinson was a visitor to Greymouth last week. Mr Hunter who has been visiting Waiuta, has returned to Westport. Miss Freda Cook was a visitor to Waiuta this week-end. Mi- and Mrs McHerron and Messrs J. and W. Watt (Westport) have been visiting Waiuta as the guests of Mr and Mrs W. Lines. Mr and Mrs A. Doig (Blackwater), visited Waiuta this week-end. Mi- E. Reid has returned to Waiuta after spending a holiday in Hokitika.
The Rev. Mr Rattray was a visitor to Waiuta for the week-end. A concert was held in the Waiuta Miners’ Hall on Saturday night in aid of the Presbyterian parish car, before a fair attendance of the public, including visitors from surrounding districts. During the interval the Rev. Mr Rattray thanked the performers who came from Greymouth, the local performers, and. also Mi' and Mrs J. McEwin for entertaining the visiting performers on their arrival, and especially thanking Mr J. McEwin for acting as stage manager throughout the evening. The programme was as follows: Cornet solo, Rev. Mr Rattray; vocal solo, “Because I was Shy,” Mr Airns; duet, “When Song is Sweet,” Miss Aitkins and Mr Green; Recitation (Humorous), Miss Bush; “All Hands on Deck,” Mr Staples and Chorus; Vocal solo. Miss Warnes; Irish Jig, Miss Thwaites; vocal solo, Mr Borte; vocal solo, “Mary O’Neil,” Miss Aitkens: Sketch, “Behind the Bars,” Mrs Jones. Miss Hampton, Messrs Jones, Staples, Clark and Green; cornet solo, Rev. Mr Rattray; vocal solo, “The Floral Dance,” Mr Airns; ' Tambourine Dance, Miss Thwaites; “Home Little Maori Home,” Waiuta Maori Party; elocutionary item, special, Miss Bush; vocal solo, Mi- Boot; vocal solo, Miss Aitkens; “Po Kare Rare,” the Waiuta Maori Party; recitation “Spotty,” Mr N. Clark m “Wai-ata Poi,” Waiuta Maori Party. After the concert a dance was held by the Waiuta League Football Club, and an enjoyable evening was spent by all. The Waiuta Maori Party paid a visit to Blackball where they performed at the concert on Monday night. They were well received by residents of Blackball.
