A big, grey hunger-stricken brute, white with the lather dripping from its jaws, invaded the yard of the Burlacu family, in Rosshoshan, Bessarabia. The bellowing of the cattle awakened the sleeping family, and the boy Alexandre Burlacu- attacked the wolf with a. club, but he was knocked down and bitten in the head. The boy’s mother, with an axe rushed to the rescue. She also was badly bitten, but she drove off the wolf, which jumped a wall. This animal bit other peasants, one of whom was killed, and. six were senf to the hospital. The wolf was finally tracked to the forest, where it was shot. Sixty cows that it had bitten had to be killed to prevent them from going mad.
