Lord Ranald: Lord Ranald, who has now been at Riccarton'for over a month, had his first schooling task on Tuesday morning and gave- a faultless display over a round of the country. He jumped each fence straight and cleanly, without any hesitancy. He does not need long schooling preparation, for he knows his game, and if all continues well ho will make his first appearance this winter in ' the Dromore Steeplechase at. Ashburton on Saturday week.

Riding at Hawke’s Bay: _ . I Mcßae, 11. Dulieu and H. Wiggins will bo riding at the Hawke’s Bay meeling. The first-named will be on Sir Moment.

(9.7) and ran seven furlongs in 1.261. Sydney critics refer to Tom Pinch as being a possibility for “another Phar Lap.” Unfortunately he docs not ■ claim tho classic engagements usually !mado for yearlings, so lie will have to do most.Qf his racing for big stakes ji under the weight-for-age scale. ;lWellington Steeplechase: 1 Following are the nominations for tho Wellington Steeplechase, of 1000 sovs.; 35 miles:--Aurora Borealis, Birkbeck,” Charlatan, Flying Swift, Handy, Kawini, Lucess, Matu, Master Lu, Mangani, Nukumai, Omeo, Odin,

June 28. —Ashburton County R.C. Winter (two events). July s.—Oamaru J.C. Winter (two events). LIGHT HARNESS~PERFORMERS. Speed and Stamina: Akenehi, a. most promising trotter, will be supported by many at Auckland on Saturday. She lias her share of both speed and stamina. *» Has Disappointed: Direct Morning has been a disappointment since he came from Australia a few years ago, and is not likely to be among the favourites at Auckland. A Difficult Task: Good horse though he is, Gold Jacket will find it beyond him to win from a 2.9 mark in the Cornwall Handicap on Saturday. Three on End: Parrish Belle has had three, starts for as many wins, apd she is certain to carry big figures in her Auckland engagements. Will Take Beating: It should take a good one to beat Denver City in the Mangere Handicap at. Auckland, for he went 3.31 2-5 off 3-.3G to finish second to Happy Land at Oamaru, and is on 3.35 on Saturday. Denver Hinds: J. J. Kennerley is now training the pacer Denver Hinds. She started 11 times last season, and won four races, her successes being achieved on the West Coast and at Nelson. . Smart Filly: Gold Chips, the runner-up in the Sapling Stakes, is on the small side, but she is a smart filly. She went away well and always was prominent. It was her first start, and to go 3.25 4-5 and then get beaten demonstrated how hard it is at times to win. Pluto: Pluto appears to be coming back to form. In the Ashburton County Handicap he paced a fine race and was just beaten at the finish. Pluto came out early this season to put up some fast times. Later lie seemed to lose form, but he may do better than ever next season. Attractive Three-year-old: Gold Country, the winner of the Trial Handicap at Ashburton, is a three-year-old by Rey de Oro from the New Zealand Cup winner Country Belle. He is a quality-looking young horse who paces very attractively.' Linkman: Properly right, Linkman is brilliant over any distance. He is on 4.28 in the Mark Memorial at Auckland, and ho has stepped well inside that mark. He will be among the favourites on Saturday. In Condition: Cardinal Logan is in fine condition for the big winter meetings. He races well at Auckland, and should have a big following there. Great Peter: The early favourite for the Mark Memorial, Great Peter, is causing Ins trainer, J. T. Paul, some concern, as ho is showing a recurrence of the trouble which kept him out ef the Otahuhu Cup. Ho can be regarded as a doubtful starter on Saturday. A Useful Trio: W. J. Tomkinson’s team for Auckland is Wilma Dillon, Home Voyage and Country King. Sunshower: Sunshower is the latest to come into favour for the Mark Memorial at Auckland. Ho will be driven by R. B. Berry, who also has Vecto engaged at the meeting.
