Since January Ist, £1,250,000 worth of betting has been handled by the totalisator, which has now' been installed by the Racecourse Betting Control Board, or is in course ’of construction, on 74 racecourses in England. The board claims that the chief purpose of the totalisator, namely, to attract more people to the races, has been achieved. July 31 —Manawatu R.C. Winter. August 12, 14, 16 —Canterbury J.C. G.N. In His Favour:
King’s Jest acts well in soft going, and this will be much in his favour at tho winter meetings. Will be Ready: ) Perle do Leon is getting through useful tasks on the training track. Waterline: It is understood that the price paid for Waterline was in the neighbourhood of 3000 guineas, and he should not prove dear at those figures. Red Heather: Red Heather has- changed owners and is now being trained by W. J.. Gordon.
Kept Busy: Pangolin and Ranelagli have been kept busy on the tracks since the Dunedin winter meeting.
Radiate Is Well: Radiate has been doing well on the track since racing at the Dunedin winter meeting.
Chief Ruler Youngster: Ellerslie owner-trainer W. Kemp has made early application for the name of Supreme Ruler for a Chief Ruler —Miss. Ethel foal, and the selection of Supreme Ruler has been approved. This foal is the last of Miss Ethel’s progeny, and ranks as a halfbrother to that good filly, Gold Money, a double-winner at the winter meeting at Ellerslie.
South Canterbury J.C.:. Tho South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting will open to-morrow, and will bo concluded on Saturday: The acceptances provide satisfactory fields, and the followiifg candidates may be prominent in their engagements: — To Kapo Hurdles; Pangolin and Lance r.
Smithfield: John Bradbury and First Raid. Otipua Steeplechase: Radiate and Radiac. Electric: Desert Song and Miss Bradbury. Tesch emaker: Black Duke and Camisader. Cladstone: French Fleet and Tunamoe. Rosewill: Jock o’ Hazeldean and I'uncliestown. Doncaster: Smithereens and Inevitable. TROTTING. FIXTURES. • June 14. —Ashburton T.C., Winter. Juno 21, 23.—Auckland T.C. Winter. June 28—Ashburton County R.C. Winter (two events). July s.—Oamaru J.C. Winter (two ; events). i Vendome: Vendome was never better than she Jis at. present, and J. J. Kennerley 'should soon placo her for another win Hn one of the shorter distance events. 1 I Reliable: Ambition is one of the most reliable trotters in commission, but a two-mile I journey is just, a bit beyond her at preIsent. ’I Has Speed: | Gemlight can bo ticked off for wins I in some of tho tightest classes fOr j trotters. He has a. rare turn of ljspeed, and only requires to carry it smoothly. I| I Likes Heavy Going: | Nelson Dillon acts well in heavy going, and so will probably find the condi-
tions at the Auckland meeting to his liking.
Will See Short Price: Olive Nelson will probably be showing the shortest price in the Stewards’ Handicap at Auckland on Saturday.
Been Costly: Peter Pirate has been a costly proposition in his more recent outings, and so may be showing good prices in his races at Auckland. He is not reliable at the barrier.
Warplane: Warplane can step a smart mile, and looks nicely placed on the front of the Cornwall Handicap at Auckland.
Not Improving: Direct Action is not improving, and he does not appeal as a prospective winner at tho Auckland meeting.
May Be Her Last: Rose Bingen may have her last race at the Auckland meeting. She is a useful trotter in heavy going, but she is now on a mark from ■ which she would have to show' a tight clip to win.
Disappointing: Since he was purchased by Mr. E. J. Parkes last season, Torpedo Huon has boon a big disappointment, and he is not likely to be supported in his races at the Auckland meeting.
