[BY CABLE—PBESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.]
LONDON, June 16. The Press Conference delegates dined at the Royal Academy, when Mr. Baldwin proposed the toast, “The Tenth Muse.” He described the world as “contracting till one almost heard the crackling of its folds.” He asked the Press to give the people truth. Unless the xeonle of the various Dominions were told the whole truth, and nothing but the whole truth about the problems of the different parts of the Empire, only a disaster could result.
Mr. Fink (Melbourne) replying, said that the Press appreciated the note of responsibility and service to the Empire "which Mr. Baldwin had struck.
Mr. J. Hutchison (New Zealand) referred to the Maori custom of fattening their captives before slaughtering them. He said that some of the delegates were growing a little nervous! Sir William Llewllyn (president of the Academy) said that it was hoped shortly to held there an exhibition of the Dominions’ art.
